Daily Fact — Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 25, 2026
Daily Fact is a Chrome extension that replaces the new tab page with an "on this day in history" fact sourced from Wikipedia. This page describes what data the extension does and does not handle.
What the extension stores
Daily Fact stores a single piece of data locally in your browser: the current day's fact, so it doesn't have to be re-fetched every time you open a new tab. This data lives only on your computer in Chrome's local extension storage. It is not transmitted anywhere and is not associated with your identity.
What the extension sends
To fetch facts, Daily Fact makes requests to Wikipedia's public API (en.wikipedia.org). These requests do not include any personal information beyond what your browser normally sends to any website (such as your IP address and User-Agent). Daily Fact does not run its own server and does not collect, log, or transmit data to any service controlled by the developer.
What the extension does not do
- No analytics, tracking, or telemetry of any kind.
- No advertising or ad networks.
- No user accounts and no sign-in.
- No collection of browsing history, page contents, or personal information.
- No selling or sharing of data with third parties (because none is collected).
Permissions
Daily Fact requests the storage permission for the sole
purpose of caching today's fact locally so the new tab page loads
instantly. The extension also overrides the new tab page via
chrome_url_overrides, which is the mechanism that allows
it to display facts when you open a new tab.
Children's privacy
Daily Fact is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, regardless of age.
Changes to this policy
If this policy is updated, the "Last updated" date above will change. Continued use of the extension after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
